Osas Nusakare, one of the 14 stowaways arrested onboard a foreign vessel at the Lagos Roadstead, has said he will continue to try to leave Nigeria for Europe.  The 45-year-old said that he wanted to celebrate the New Year in a European country.  He confessed that this was his second attempt and he would keep trying until he succeeds.  The 14 stowaways were arrested last Friday, Dec. 15, onboard a motor tanker, UOG CONSTANTINE, by naval officers from NNS BEECROFT.  Nusakare said he had boarded the vessel with the intention of travelling to Europe, but they were discovered before the ship sailed out of Lagos water.  It was learnt that the ship had gone to discharge petroleum product in one of the tank firms in Lagos.  "We joined the vessel with the aim of travelling to any country in Europe. We were encouraged by the fact that we were going to celebrate the New Year in Europe. This is my second attempt. I am not discouraged. I will continue to try untill I succeed," he added.

The Senate has expressed concerns over the lack of transparency in the implementation of President Bola Tinubu administration's N500 billion Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project. The upper legislative chamber alleged that members of the Presidential Gas Initiative Steering Committee had "refused" to answer questions before the National Assembly on the N500 billion gas intervention fund of the federal government. The chairman, Senate committee on gas, Jarigbe Agom, noted that the activities of the committee are "shrouded in secrecy" with "no transparency in their activities". He stated that both the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the National Assembly are not aware of their activities on the usage of the funds released so far for the implementation of the project. A popular traditionalist, Abdulazeez Adegbola, a.k.a Tani Olohun, has pleaded with the Muslim community to forgive him for allegedly burning the Qur'an and defaming some Muslims in Kwara State. Tani Olorun made this plea while addressing the court after he was granted bail on Thursday, Nov. 16. The cases against Tani Olorun heard on Thursday were instituted by Sheikh Labeeb Lagbaji and Modrasat Muhammed led by Professor Abubakar Aliagan before Magistrate Adam for allegedly burning the Quran among other offences. Customs Seizes 1,365 Bags Of Rice, Arrest Nine Suspects In Katsina. The Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Association says there will be a surplus rice supply during Christmas due to bumper harvests. Linus Nkwuda, chairman of the association, said Thursday in Abakaliki that 2023 rice yields were abundant. "We are experiencing bumper harvest. So, we expect more rice in the market for consumers this season," stated Mr Nkwuda. On the price of rice, Nkwuda said the higher production would push down the cost, making the product much more affordable for the people. "We hope to have a good supply to the market; we cannot predict the cost for tomorrow. Right now, the prices are fluctuating on a daily basis. Currently, a bag of 25kg of the highest grade is sold between N17,000 and N19,500," said Mr Nkwuda.
