The Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emiefele has warned that the apex bank would stop the usage of old Naira notes from 31 st  January, 2023. This is coming at a time when the apex bank noted conspicuously, the challenges bedeviling the country's currency. In a statement obtained by Vanguard, Emefiele stated that the 'currency management has faced several daunting challenges that have continued to grow in scale and sophistication with attendant and unintended consequences for the integrity of both the CBN and the country'. Listing the challenges Emefiele said: 'Significant hoarding of banknotes by members of the public, with statistics showing that over 80 percent of currency in circulation are outside the vaults of commercial banks; Worsening shortage of clean and fit banknotes with attendant negative perception of the CBN and increased risk to financial stability; Increasing ease and risk of counterfeiting evidenced by several security reports.' The Chinese government has opened police stations in Nigeria and in over 20 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. The move could be viewed as a campaign to tackle the rising criminal activities, such as fraud and telecommunication crimes by Chinese nationals living abroad. The new development was stated in an investigative statement titled, 110 Overseas Chinese Transnational Policing Gone Wild. The Chinese Police Station known as "Service Station" is located in Benin City in Nigeria and in two other countries in Africa including Maseru in Lesotho, and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Further reports also have it that the police stations are created to bring "down on all kinds of illegal and criminal activities involving overseas Chinese".

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The Federal Government has threatened to sue the striking lecturers, who are members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities if they fail to resume as ruled by the National Industrial Court. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who issued this threat on Friday during an interview monitored on Channel TV, disclosed that he had directed labour controllers to monitor compliance at all tertiary institutions across the states. The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, told Daily Post that the union was yet to officially receive the Appeal Court ruling. The striking university lecturers’ union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reacted to the ruling of the Court of Appeal ordering them to resume work immediately after its eight-month-old strike. SaharaReporters reported earlier that the three-man panel of appellate court headed by Justice Hamma Barka, on Friday ordered the striking lecturers to obey the ruling of the National Industrial Court and return to classroom effective from October 7 (today). The court however granted ASUU “Conditional leave to appeal the order of the Industrial Court,” but insisted that ASUU must obey the order of the NIC with immediate effect. Reacting to the Appeal Court's ruling, ASUU said that it would review the judgment before it will decide on the next line of action.
