This metal mask was used during slavery for 3 main reasons.


1) To prevent the slaves from eating fruits such as apples, pineapples, oranges, cashews, bananas, plantains and sugarcanes etc while harvesting them, yet they were made to work consistently in all the plantation farms.


2) To stop the slaves from chanting our African spiritual songs. Not only that those our spiritual and war songs affected the slave masters, it also motivated some slaves to rebel and fight back not minding losing their lives.


3) To stop slaves form teaching our African local dialects (languages) to their children...whereby destroyed our dialects, and forced them to learn foreign languages.


Last but not the least, to starve slaves as a punishment in the slave camps. The mask prevented them from eating or drinking. Sometimes the slave masters would forced an apple (a whole 🍎) into the mouths of slaves before they wore the metal mask on them with the padlocks so that they couldn't talk.

Federal Government May Raise Minimum Wage to N200,000, to Take Decision Soon.

There are strong indications that the federal government is favourably disposed to raising the minimum wage to as high as N200k per month as demanded by the organised labour in the country. However, state governors are urging for caution while Anambra State governor Charles Soludo has been asked to chair a Technical Working Group (TWG) to resolve the issues and its various dimensions. LEADERSHIP gathered that the matter was discussed at the last month's National Economic Council (NEC) meeting and it was there that the Salaries, Incomes & Wages Commission made a presentation on how the federal government can meet up with the demand of N200,000 per month minimum wage. Tricycle Driver Strung Up For Killing Passenger Over #50 In Bayelsa.

A keke driver has been lynched to death shortly after he stabbed a young man named Douglas Joseph to death over N50. According to reports the incident happened in Yenizue-Epie community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. The passenger who was stabbed by the Keke driver, Douglas Joseph, 30, was a native of the community and a father of three. According to an eyewitness, the keke driver charged the passenger a fare of N150 which was supposed to be N100. The passenger, Douglas did not agree to pay the fare and it ended in a fight. "He said he was coming from Opolo community to Kpansia which was supposed to be N100, but the Keke rider insisted on collecting N150. Alleged fake Result: JAMB Bans Ejimeme Mmesoma UTME/Post-UTME.

Amid controversy surrounding Ejimeme Joy Mmesoma's results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has barred her from sitting for the examination for three years. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. According to him, the Board stands by its decision that the result being paraded by the candidate is fake. Recall that Mmesoma claimed that she scored 362, but JAMB refuted it, noting that she scored 249. The issue generated divergent views on social media; however, JAMB said Mmesoma had committed a weighty infraction.
