 NIGERIA AIR FORCE TAKES OVER MKO ABIOLA AIRPORT IN OSUN, SET TO TURN THE LOCATION TO AVIATION CITY TO.


The Nigerian Air Force on Wednesday disclosed plans to establish an aviation city in Osun State while it formally took possession of the MKO Abiola Airport, Ido-Osun, Osun State.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, who was represented by Air Vice Marshal, M. Onilede, recalled that NAF had earlier relocated its Research and Development Centre from Kaduna to Osogbo.


According to him, the aviation city will be established in addition to the existing NAF Institute of Safety and Special Operation at Ipetu-Ijesa, Osun State.


He said, “Furthermore NAF intends to develop an aviation city in Osun State. Discussions are already ongoing with necessary foreign partners and work will commence as soon as an agreement is reached.


“The project would include an aircraft manufacturing plant, a maintenance repair organisation, and an unmanned aerial vehicle production centre among many others. It would be the first of its kind on the continent. The runway is, therefore, a critical requirement for these facilities. If we manufacture aircraft, there will be a need to test fly the aircraft.

“We are going to develop the runway, we are going to build a terminal that will be dual purpose. Instead of people going to Akure, Ibadan, or Lagos to take a flight. Once that place is ready, it would be available for civil flight operations.”



In his remarks, the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, commended the NAF for situating the projects in Osun.


He said, “I would like to state here that request by the Nigerian Air Force for the State Government to cede the runway and the entire airport corridor to them shall be granted. The corridor will be developed for both military and civilian use.”

BREAKING: Court jails Akwa Ibom YPP gov candidate 42 years for corruption.

Mr. Albert. The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Bassey Albert, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for corruption. A Federal High Court in Uyo, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced Mr Albert who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He has been taken to Ikot Ekpene prisons, Akwa Ibom State , to serve his prison term. Mr Albert, a serving senator representing Akwa Ibom North East District, was accused of receiving bribes of 12 cars worth N254 million from an oil marketer, Olajidee Omokore, during his (Albert’s) tenure (2010 – 2014) as commissioner for finance in Akwa Ibom State. The convicted senator was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, the ruling party in the state, before he defected months ago to the YPP, where he secured the party’s ticket for the 2023 governorship election. Court Reinstated Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State.

The appellate court sitting in Abuja has upheld Mr Ademola Adeleke Nurudeen as the governor of Osun State. Recall that the Osun State tribunal had sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory citing such issues as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. A three-member panel of justices decided in Adeleke's appeal on Friday, concluding that the election tribunal fell short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over voting. The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for making a decision which was based on oral witness of alleged over voting as what is usually considered are the information on the BVAs and voter registration. In addition to overturning the tribunal's decision, the court gave the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500, 000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
