 Mohbad: 'How Police Arrested Sam Larry'


Fresh details of how the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested controversial show promoter, Balogun Eletu, better known as Sam Larry have emerged.

Torizone reports Sam Larry was arrested over an ongoing investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of 27-year-old singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday night but didn't reveal details of how the arrest was made.

However, a Police source quoted by Punch has shed more light on circumstances and events that led to the arrest of the controversial socialite.

According to the source, Larry was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday evening as he arrived from Kenya and was immediately taken to the State Police headquarters for questioning.

"Sam Larry was arrested at the airport after he arrived from Kenya. Our officers arrested him at the airport, and he was immediately taken to the state police headquarters for questioning," the source said.

It would be recalled that following the controversial and sudden death of Mohbad on Tuesday, September 12, there have been several calls for the Police to carry out a diligent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

In line with the call, the Police have exhumed his body for autopsy and the nurse who injected him before he died was also arrested.

The Police promised to provide more details as the investigation continues.

The father of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad has spoken about the death of his son. In a video interview that went viral on Saturday, Joseph Aloba narrated, "I think the injection led to his death. Mr. Albert. The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Bassey Albert, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for corruption. A Federal High Court in Uyo, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced Mr Albert who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He has been taken to Ikot Ekpene prisons, Akwa Ibom State , to serve his prison term. Mr Albert, a serving senator representing Akwa Ibom North East District, was accused of receiving bribes of 12 cars worth N254 million from an oil marketer, Olajidee Omokore, during his (Albert’s) tenure (2010 – 2014) as commissioner for finance in Akwa Ibom State. Court Reinstated Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State.

The appellate court sitting in Abuja has upheld Mr Ademola Adeleke Nurudeen as the governor of Osun State. Recall that the Osun State tribunal had sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory citing such issues as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. A three-member panel of justices decided in Adeleke's appeal on Friday, concluding that the election tribunal fell short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over voting. The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for making a decision which was based on oral witness of alleged over voting as what is usually considered are the information on the BVAs and voter registration. In addition to overturning the tribunal's decision, the court gave the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500, 000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
