Tinubu Write To House of Reps, Seeking N500billion for Subsidy Paliatives.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives seeking the sum of N500 billion for palliatives to cushion the effect of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirits (PMS) popularly known as petrol.


Tinubu in the letter also sought an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act which will allow the Federal Government (FG) to source the money from the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act of N819.5 billion.


The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the president's letter during plenary on Wednesday.


"I write to request the approval of the House of Representatives for an amendment of the 2022 appropriation act in accordance with the law," Tinubu said.


"The request has become necessary in other to source for funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.


"The sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the 2022 appropriation act of N819.536 for the provision of palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.


"I expect that the House will speedily consider the request."


Abbas also said that the lawmakers would consider Tinubu's request at plenary on Thursday.


Labour unions, groups and individuals have urged the FG and 36 state governments to urgently look into the need for palliatives to ameliorate and cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.


Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy in his inaugural speech as president on May 29, 2023.

There is a small town on your way to Oyo, just behind Fiditi, it's called Ilu Ajẹ. Literally, it translates to "Town of Witches". In the late 80s,  there used to be a sign board in Fiditi that pointed to the path to the village,  the signboard had the inscription : "WAY TO ILU AJẸ, HOME OF SCIENCE!". Lots of people used to fear indigenes of Ilu Ajẹ because it was said that every man in Ilu Ajẹ is born of a witch, and every woman in ilu Ajẹ is a witch!. It was said some people visited Ilu Ajẹ to find out why a whole village would be populated by witches. Tinubu Signs Electricity Act 2023, Empowers States, Private Companies To Generate Power.

This new law will empower states, companies, and individuals to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in the country. The Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, has signed the 2023 Electricity Act which is a replacement for the Electricity and Power Sector Reform Act of 2005 into a law. The newly enacted law will de-monopolise Nigerian electricity generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity at the national level. This new law will empower states, companies, and individuals to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in the country. Recall that the Electricity Act 2023 was initially passed by lawmakers in July 2022 to allow the states to issue licences to private investors who can operate mini-grids and power plants within the state.
