Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka has said the 2023 elections in Nigeria "broke his trust"


Stating that he was out of the country for some months, Soyinka said the elections was “not exactly the most edifying exercise that we’ve been through.”

 

“On arriving, I came in for the World Poetry Day, and immediately, I was bombarded by the most horrendous narratives both pre and after the elections,” he said to Channels TV on Monday, April 3.

 

“Since then, I’ve also read columns; I’ve seen Nigerian papers for the first time in months and I didn’t like what I read at all.


“My trust has broken down completely and even the minimum restraint that we’ve learnt to expect from seasoned politicians have been jettisoned completely.”


He said the existing mould was going to be broken.


“And the signs were there that there would be die-hard opposition to the breaking of that mould,” he said. “Elections should be keenly contested. But I still believe very much in what I call the Fashola Dictum., referring to former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola, once saying elections should be like festivals.


“They should be yet another aspect of the festive spirit of humanity – and this was anything but festive,” he said.

The father of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad has spoken about the death of his son. In a video interview that went viral on Saturday, Joseph Aloba narrated, "I think the injection led to his death. I don't know the people that took him the hospital, but according to what I heard, he was vomiting after recieving the injection and that was when they decided to take him to the hospital.  "I did not hear anything from the doctor because I was not there. Adekunle Gold blasts Buhari, says Nigerians wasted 8 years.

Nigerian afrobeat singer and songwriter, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari's administration for the hardship in the country. This is coming a few days after Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade lamented over the suffering of Nigerians. However, the 'It is what it is' crooner said the Buhari-led administration had done nothing other than waste eight years of Nigerians' lives. In a tweet, Adekunle Gold said the country has been in regression since the Buhari administration took over in 2015. "This current administration wasted 8 years of our lives. 8 years, we regressed as a nation,"  he wrote. Court Reinstated Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State.

The appellate court sitting in Abuja has upheld Mr Ademola Adeleke Nurudeen as the governor of Osun State. Recall that the Osun State tribunal had sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory citing such issues as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. A three-member panel of justices decided in Adeleke's appeal on Friday, concluding that the election tribunal fell short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over voting. The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for making a decision which was based on oral witness of alleged over voting as what is usually considered are the information on the BVAs and voter registration. In addition to overturning the tribunal's decision, the court gave the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500, 000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
