Tinubu unveils 3,112 housing units project in Abuja amid economic hardship

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday launched the groundbreaking ceremony of constructing a 3,112 housing unit project in Karsana District, Phase 3, Federal Capital Territory amid economic hardship.


According to a statement on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development's official X, the groundbreaking event on Thursday signified the official launch of the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme.

The ministry added that the event is expected to be initiated in Karsana, a residential area near Gwarimpa estate.

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is pleased to inform the public that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will officially launch the Ministry's nationwide Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme with a groundbreaking ceremony for a 3,112 housing unit project site in Karsana, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday, February 8, 2024," the statement read in part.


We recall that it had previously reported the announcement by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development three months ago, where the Federal Government introduced the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Programme.

The federal government had stated that 1,000 housing units would be constructed in the 36 States and 4,000 units in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.


We recall that, like the price of goods and services, the cost of rent and building materials had skyrocketed in Nigeria. Development is symptomatic of the rising cost of living in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country.

Federal Government May Raise Minimum Wage to N200,000, to Take Decision Soon.

There are strong indications that the federal government is favourably disposed to raising the minimum wage to as high as N200k per month as demanded by the organised labour in the country. However, state governors are urging for caution while Anambra State governor Charles Soludo has been asked to chair a Technical Working Group (TWG) to resolve the issues and its various dimensions. LEADERSHIP gathered that the matter was discussed at the last month's National Economic Council (NEC) meeting and it was there that the Salaries, Incomes & Wages Commission made a presentation on how the federal government can meet up with the demand of N200,000 per month minimum wage. Ladoke Akintola University LAUTECH Bans All Students From Taking Cars To School.

Students of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso in Oyo State, have been barred from driving or bringing cars to the campus. The management of the institution also banned the use of tinted vehicles by staff members and students, adding that learner permits must be placed on the vehicles of beginner drivers. Unauthorized vehicles parked at various locations in the university are to be taken out with immediate effect. Registrar of the institution, Kayode Ogunleye said the decision was reached at a management meeting held on Wednesday, April 19. He was asked how many seconds there were in a year and a half, he answered in about two minutes, 47,304,000.
