'I'm sorry' - Tobi Amusan apologizes for letting Nigerians down

World Record holder Tobi Amusan says she's sorry for letting Nigerians down by not defending her world title in Budapest.

Tobi Amusan has apologized to Nigerians after losing her women's 100m Hurdles world title at the World Championships in Budapest.

Amusan finished sixth in 12.62s as Jamaica's Danielle Williams regained her title from 2015 in a Season's Best (SB) of 12.43s, Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn settled for silver in 12.44s, and USA's Keni Harrison won bronze in 12.46s.

The Nigerian speed hurdler's time doesn't justify her capabilities after going through a rough past month with her Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) case and only got cleared two days before the start of the championship.

It was evident from her qualifying heat race that she wasn't at her best mentally and physically, so getting to the final was a huge plus and achievement for the World Record (WR) holder.

Despite not winning the gold or any medal, she got the love and support of Nigerians worldwide, who have directed positive vibes to her, proclaiming that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be her moment of glory again.

Reacting to her loss, Amusan in a post-race interview with MakingofChamps on Twitter, apologized to Nigerians for letting them down.

"I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been supporting me through the ups and downs. You all stood by me and kept praying for me, God bless you all.

I'm sorry I may have let you all down, but we will be back stronger, definitely."
