2030 World Cup bid: Al-Nassr makes clarification on Ronaldo's contract

Cristiano Ronaldo's new club, Al-Nassr, on Tuesday night, clarified that the forward's contract did not include an agreement to support Saudi Arabia's joint bid for the 2030 World Cup.

Al-Nassr stated this in a tweet via its Twitter handle while denying reports that Ronaldo's contract includes an agreement to support Saudi Arabia's joint bid for the 2030 World Cup.

"Al Nassr FC would like to clarify that contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids.

"His main focus is on Al Nassr and to work with his teammates to help the club achieve success," Al-Nassr tweeted.

Ronaldo joined the Saudi club in December after departing Manchester United by mutual consent in November on the back of his explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

The Portugal captain put pen to paper on an eye-watering deal worth £175million yearly with Al-Nassr.

However, reports in Spain at the end of December claimed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is also set to become an ambassador for Saudi Arabia's bid for the 2030 World Cup because of a clause in his Al-Nassr deal.

But Al-Nassr has now denied this claim as it took to Twitter to rubbish the reports that the player's contract includes a clause to support World Cup bids.

Mr. Albert. The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Bassey Albert, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for corruption. A Federal High Court in Uyo, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced Mr Albert who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He has been taken to Ikot Ekpene prisons, Akwa Ibom State , to serve his prison term. Mr Albert, a serving senator representing Akwa Ibom North East District, was accused of receiving bribes of 12 cars worth N254 million from an oil marketer, Olajidee Omokore, during his (Albert’s) tenure (2010 – 2014) as commissioner for finance in Akwa Ibom State. The convicted senator was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, the ruling party in the state, before he defected months ago to the YPP, where he secured the party’s ticket for the 2023 governorship election.
